TEMSA unveils long-range Avenue Electron 12m electric bus powered by TM4
(Kortrijk, Belgium) – TEMSA , a leading Turkish coach, bus and light truck manufacturer, has unveiled at Busworld 2017 its new long-range Avenue Electron electric bus. The 12-meters bus is equipped with TM4’s SUMOTM electric powertrain, comprising of a high-torque direct-drive motor and automotive-grade power electronics. With a range of 400 km on a single charge, this new bus platform will offer public transit operators a versatile option for the electrification of their fleet while minimizing infrastructure costs.
Dana TM4 has been working closely with TEMSA over the past 4 years, also collaborating on the development of their MD9 electric bus platform unveiled in 2015. “We are proud to have once again been selected by Temsa for the propulsion of their latest electric bus platform. Thanks to our global partnerships and expanding support and production capacity, TM4 is committed to providing the best product and services to enable cost-effective electrification of public transportation in Turkey”, said TM4’s Sales and Customer Service Director, Eric Azeroual.
TM4’s SUMO systems have now reached more than 150 million of kilometers on road in a diversity of vehicle platforms. All the cumulated data from these vehicle’s duty cycles have allowed the company to optimize and tailor their solutions to real road conditions.
“The Sumo HD system was selected for Avenue Electron because of its high efficiency. High regenerative power means longer range especially in heavy-duty city-bus driving cycles. The Sumo HD direct-drive system delivers high-torque directly in the input of the rear axle differential, allowing the bus to perform in high gradeability areas. Different regenerative braking ratios can also be selected by the driver allowing one pedal driving, simply using the throttle pedal, similarly to existing passenger cars EVs in the market today.” said Burak Onur, Technology Manager at TEMSA Global.
Production of the Avenue Electron will start in 2019. This 12-meters bus can carry up to 80 passengers and thanks to its 320 kWh battery pack, it can travel up to 400 km on a single charge, making it suitable for the operational conditions of most Turkish and European cities.
